Oasis fans go supersonic on mobile data at Principality Stadium

Press Office,

Nearly 150,000 fans packed out Principality Stadium in Cardiff on the evenings of July 4 and 5 to witness the opening nights of OASIS’ long-awaited reunion. As the final bars of Champagne Supernova faded out into the Cardiff night, enough mobile data was consumed by Vodafone and Three customers – across the two concerts – to stream the band’s hits for over 40,856 hours non-stop.

Vodafone, as Digital Transformation Partner of the WRU, not only installed 5G around the stadium, but also improved existing 2G and 4G coverage to ensure that customers can stay connected. Whether that’s by sharing photos or videos on social media or with friends and family half a world away.

Not only that, but the masterplan is that Three and Vodafone customers will be able to roam across both networks by March 2026, with their phones using the signal from whatever network is best at their location. This ‘access to roam’ – or MOCN (Mobile Operator Core Network) to give it its technical name – will work automatically, with no need to change settings on devices. Once the rollout is finished, MOCN will ultimately bring better mobile coverage to 16,500 square kilometres of the UK – an area roughly 10x the size of London.

So, the Nation’s Network continues to ensure that Vodafone and Three customers can enjoy fast and reliable coverage – whether they’re watching the reunion of their favourite band in the stadium or just listening to them through music streaming.
